We don’t forget tea lovers either and sell a full range of Teapigs including the popular flavours Lemon and Ginger, Jasmine Pearls and Mao Feng Green Tea. So really our Coffee House is should be a Coffee and Tea House.

Welshpool is not like many towns and cities in that it does not offer a blistering array of high street coffee shops. In the summer, enjoy a coffee or tea break in our outside seating area and watch the world go by. If the weather is not to your liking, take a seat in our Lounge or Bar areas, where the sofas and tables offer a welcome retreat from the harsh weather. Which ever choice you make we don’t believe you will be disappointed.

History of Afternoon Tea

Anna, the 7th Duchess of Bedford is widely understood to have been been the driving force behind afternoon tea in the 1840's. She is said to have complained of "having that sinking feeling" during the late afternoon. It was common at that time for people to take only two main meals a day, breakfast in the morning, and dinner at around 8 o'clock in the evening. The Duchess' solution was a pot a tea and a light snack, taken privately in her boudoir during the afternoon. This quickly became a treat with her friends and developed into a social event.
